Premiered at Liverpool Cathedral in March this year, the performance received a standing ovation from the 2000 strong audience. We are honoured and delighted to announce that our performance will be attended by the composer, Dr Karl Jenkins, and by Mrs Carol Jenkins. They have kindly accepted our invitation, and will travel from their home in Wales especially to be present. Karl is currently touring with the work, which he is conducting to full houses up and down the country. This could well be the first occasion on which he will experience "Stabat Mater" from a seat in the audience. We anticipate that Karl will be available to sign copies of his CDs, which will be on sale after the performance. Stabat Mater is sung in six languages, English, Latin, Greek, and the ethnic tongues of Hebrew, Aramaic and Arabic. These last three call for an "ethnic" soloist, and we have retained Belinda Sykes to take this role. Belinda performed, both at the premiere and on the CD, and is currently touring with Karl. She also plays on the duduk, one of the ethnic instruments which form part of the score. Stabat Mater is on an epic scale, and calls for an orchestra of almost 40, in addition to a choir and two vocal soloists. The recording itself is very dramatic, but to be fully appreciated the work is best experienced live. This is the largest and most ambitious project Grayshott Concerts has ever undertaken at St Luke's. We must therefore increase ticket prices for this concert which, even with a full house, will not meet the cost of the performance, the balance being covered by our ever generous sponsors and members of Buy in Grayshott. However, we are confident you will still find this event exceptional value for a performance of this quality and drama. We emphasise that Dr and Mrs Jenkins are not charging for their attendance or for any expenses they incur. Grayshott's own choir, Excelsis, conducted by our intrepid Director of Music, Robert Lewis, has taken on the challenge of performing this fantastic oratorio - in the presence of its composer. If you liked his "Armed Man" - you will love his "Stabat Mater". How to book: Ticket Prices: £25.00 for all seats, to include a complimentary interval drink. All seats offer good views and the acoustics in the church are excellent throughout. General Booking will open on Saturday 10th January 2009 >> either through our website www.grayshottconcerts.co.uk or Allocation of seats will be made on Friday 9th January 2009 in the following order of priority: Gold Friends registered as at 1 Jan 09 Please see below if you would like more information on Friends of Grayshott Concerts.
