Previous experience is not required due to the comprehenisve training given.

Part-time Retained Firefighters are paid well for their services - they receive thorough training enabling participants to achieve a Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) licence, a certificate in First Aid, plus all there is to know about emergency situations. These roles are certainly demanding but in return offer the chance to make a real contribution in this vital service.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is keen to recruit both men and women, and if you think the female roles are more administrative, you would be totally wrong - all Firefighters operate in frontline situations.

Centenary Celebrations

It’s a big year for Grayshott as they prepare to celebrate 100 operational years of service.

Formed in 1907 as the independent Grayshott and Hindhead Fire Brigade. It had a Chief Fire Officer and twelve volunteer Fire-fighters. The princely sum of £106 was raised and paid for a cart, hose, standpipe and 9 hydrants. They attended their first incident in February 1907.

One hundred years later the station now attends more incidents in one year than they attended in their first thirty years. A stark contrast to the ever changing nature of the Fire & Rescue Service to meet the changing demands of the community.

Grayshott station is writing a book that maps the entire history of the station right up to the current day.

Material from the book will contribute to the exhibition they will be hosting as part of an open day on the 23rd of June.

The event is hoping to include live demonstrations of an RTC exercise, the USART team and the chip pan fire unit. There will be numerous other displays including over 23 vehicles ranging from vintage appliances through to modern day equipment helping to map the history of the station.

A poster campaign is also being launched which the schools team will use as part of a safety awareness campaign with the local schools.

The grand finale will be a procession of the vehicles through the village.
